Where stone edges are visible they need to be treated in such a way so the effect is consistent with the face finish. Edge detailing not only refers to the finish to be applied to the edge (i.e. Polished edge to flamed paving) but also the shape of the edge or stone junction.
For commercial stonework edge details are fairly simple and usually involve the junction of two stone surfaces such as a wall meeting a capping or at the corner of a column.

For Domestic applications (bench tops) other edge treatments come into play. The most common of these treatments are shown below. Some of these treatments are also applicable for commercial useage in areas such as Stair Tread Nosings and for cappings.
